Tacos are life!
With that being said, why would anyone want to give them up, right? Well, you don’t have to. I know that with the New Year many of us have decided to eat healthier and started taking better care of our bodies.
Tacos aren’t exactly the healthiest choice on the menu and there’s nothing quite like them. Fortunately, when we really want something, we figure out a way to get it. I will never be ready to give up tacos so I knew I had to come up with a healthier version of tacos that still satisfied my cravings.
These Taco Lettuce Wraps are delicious! They are definitely a healthier option than a traditional taco and they taste amazing. Not to mention, they are so easy to make! It is a quick lunch idea for any day of the week. Here’s how you can still enjoy Taco Tuesday but without all the extra calories!
Taco Lettuce Wraps
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 3/4 cup yellow onion chopped
- 1 lb ground turkey 95% lean
- 2 cloves Garlic finely chopped
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 Tbsp Chili Powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
- Romaine lettuce leaves
For Toppings: shredded Mexican cheese, diced tomatoes, diced avocado, chopped cilantro, and light our cream.
Begin by heating the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the chopped onions and garlic. Saute for 3 minutes.
Next, add the turkey and cook for 5-7 minutes. Stirring occasionally.
Once the turkey is cooked, add salt, pepper, chili powder, cumin, paprika, tomato sauce, and the chicken broth. Combine well and cook for another 2 minutes.
Reduce heat and simmer for another 5 minutes.
Finally, serve with the romaine leaves and your favorite toppings.
